In July 1988, at the NFAA National Field Championships in Darrington, Washington, I shot the highest non-sight field or hunter round score ever recorded in national or international competition. Shooting in the bowhunter division, I achieved a 526 hunter round score along with a five-day aggregate score of 2618, the highest five-day aggregate non-sight score up until that time. Earlier that year, I won the annual Santa Cruz Archers money shoot with an NFAA indoor round score of 300/47 Xs. A month or so later, I set a new California state indoor record with a score of 438/450 on the Vegas face. Shortly after that, I won the Las Vegas Indoor Classic Tournament. The significance of these scores is not to brag, but to point out that I was shooting a commercial rest that I had modified to allow the arrow to react naturally when released. In conjunction with Tim Strickland, a former Olympic coach, I have spent the last few years designing and perfecting an arrow rest that I could put my name on.
